David, the gang sat out a violent storm at a wine producing establishment drinking!! One of the Buenos Aries British Embassy staff was there also - that's your taxes going to a good cause! Resting on the Pacific Coast at Vina Del Mar
THEY'VE ARRIVED! Today I had a phone call from George in a bar (where else!) overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Everyone is well except Richard who has taken to his bed with a touch of sunstroke. Vince broke a spring by trying to do a bit of off-roading but it was secured, not by a ratchet tie-down, but by a large Jubilee clip. George's phone call was clearer than one from Southbourne!

Message from Vince:
Hello Folks!
This brief message while sitting in the hot sun on la Serena beach with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees C!! Not a cloud in the sky, lots of bare flesh on the beach and great wines in all restaurants. (Bottle of whine at 1.50 and a good steak 3.)
Hope the weather is fine at home, but for the moment the consensus is that we stay here!!!!
Other than small details, the cars are OK. Bear in mind that in Chile we are continuously accompanied by highly courteous and efficient ( as well as well dressed) policemen, since while on the trip we found out that right hand drive cars are forbidden in Chile. We obtained special permission under the condition that we would accept police escort everywhere. In the end that turned out to be a lot less hassle than anticipated and in fact quite comfortable and helpful to cross towns and find our hotels!
Once we have climbed the steep wall back onto and across the Andes, we will further update you.
